Somali Business women putting business first!

Chamber Trade Sweden gathered top Somali business women in Nairobi on February 7-11, to meet with our partners East African Women in Agribusiness Network to discuss potential cooperation. The meeting showed how businesswomen put business first! The meeting was supported by Sida and the Swedish Embassy in Nairobi.

Several of the Somali business women which joined in the meeting are part of the entrepreneurial diaspora which has returned to their home country to build not only their businesses but also their nation. These women are important role models for other women. They do not only run successful businesses but also create the jobs and growth needed to preserve peace.

Rhoda Elmi is one example from Gothenburg Sweden. She is a pharmacist that decided to go back and invest in her roots in Somaliland where she has opened her own pharmacy chain, modelled on Swedish pharmacies offering only Swedish products.
